March Book Haul
Where did February go?! I swear I just picked up my last month’s book haul, and here I am again writing up a post about how I ransacked my local bookstore and what I came away with. I was in such a mood to reward myself for finishing out 2 college courses that I went a bit overboard. The sales clerk literally asked me if I’d left any books for them on their shelves when he saw me walk up with my haul!
So I was invited by some lovely friends I have on goodreads to join a group read of Morgan Rhodes Falling Kingdoms series, with plans to start on March 13th. This is a YA/Fantasy series, and the covers are absolutely stunning! Only problem being that I didn’t own any of the books in the series. I’ve been meaning to start this series for awhile now but never really prioritized it, so this seemed like the perfect time! Of that series, I picked up the first 5 books:
- Falling Kingdoms
- Rebel Spring
- Gathering Darkness
- Frozen Tides
- Crystal Storm
Plot Summary at a Glance
I mostly try and stay completely unspoiled on future books in series, so I’m just going to share a plot summary of the first book, Falling Kingdoms:
In the three kingdoms of Mytica, magic has been forgotten, and the kingdoms are caught in political unrest. As the political figures in each kingdom grapple for power, 4 new players from entirely different levels of society find their stories inexplicably intertwined
The only outcome that’s certain is that kingdoms will fall. Who will emerge triumphant when all they know has collapsed?
It’s the eve of war…. Choose your side.
It’s all very espionage, very betrayals and murdery plots – all stuff I love, so I’m really looking forward to this!
I also bought:
- A Torch Against the Night by Sabaa Tahir
I bought the first book last month. (Still have to get around to reading it, but it will be soon, I promise!) I also made a commitment to myself to do better at buying out the remaining books in series that I already own, so I my collections look a bit more complete.
- Golden Son by Pierce Brown
The second book in the Red Rising trilogy, this one is a bit of leap of faith for me! I read the first book probably 3 or 4 years ago, and unfortunately at the time I did not love it. That being said, I really think I didn’t give it the best of chances, so I’m determined to give the series one more shot. I bought this book to force myself to get around to re-reading the first book sooner, rather than later.
- The Providence of Fire by Brian Staveley
Again, I’m trying to make sure I close out the series I’ve already started buying books to. This book is Staveley’s second in his Chronicle of the Unhewn Throne series. This series of fantasy novels is really calling my name, and will probably be one of the ext series that I start.
