So I’ve tried to be slightly better this month in terms of book buying. I’ve got piles upon piles of books still to read, and even more on my kindle but I just can’t help myself. I’m a collector at heart and I love proudly displaying all these gems at home! I’ve not had the opportunity to take any snaps for instagram of them yet this month because things are crazy, but they’ll be up soon, I promise! Follow me on Instagram @bookbastion to catch them when they’re up!
The Lost Hero
The Heroes of Olympus series – Book 1
by Rick Riordan
Every time I go into a bookstore, in my meandering through the aisles I always inevitably end up eyeing all of the Rick Riordan books. I think it’s a combination of that their covers are awesome, and the content just sounds like so much fun! I’ve been meaning to finish up Percy Jackson so that I can move on to some of the other things he’s written, and this was just the push I needed to get me to really apply myself towards that goal.
The Son of Neptune
by Rick Riordan
Okay, so I really wanted to drive that point from above home. Out of the two first books in this series, this is the one that really interests me the most. I can’t wait to until I reach it!
Stalking Jack the Ripper
by Kerri Maniscalco
I fully admit that this one was an impulse buy. I jumped on this one after seeing a fair chunk of friends on my Goodreads feed raving about this book, and enjoying ARCs of its sequel. I hate to be left on the outs of great series, so I jumped in and am committed to checking it out! I’m really intrigued by the Victorian setting and of course, Jack the Ripper. I hope this fills a Penny Dreadful sized hole in my heart, at the very least.
Fool’s Assassin
by Robin Hobb
When I was wandering around the bookstore, I found this on a shelf full of custom sale items that were marked down to $5.00. I’ve never read Robin Hobb before, but I’ve heard wonderful things about her and always been interested in her work, so I snatched it up. I’ve since been informed that this is NOT the appropriate place to start without feeling totally lost, so that brings me to my next pick.
Assassin’s Apprentice
by Robin Hobb
Apparently this is a better starting point. If I’m wrong about that, please let me know! I went ahead and bought a copy of this for my Kindle and plan on reading it soon. I’m really looking forward to it!
Deep Blue
by Jennifer Donnelly
I’ve owned this for the longest, but I didn’t want to do a second April book haul just for this when I bought it! I’m really feeling mermaids right now and am actually planning on reading this one next week sometime, so keep your eye out for the review soon! I’ve heard mixed reviews, so I’m trying to keep my expectations relatively low. I just want mindless mermaid fun.
Rogue Wave
by Jennifer Donnelly
So, I also bought the sequel too. I can’t help it. I have zero self control. The cover was too beautiful to pass up!
So that’s it! Those are all the books I’ve bought so far this month! Have you read any of these? What did you think of them? Follow me on instagram @bookbastion for my snaps of these books which will be up soon!
xoxo
Awesome book haul! I’ve read all of these except for Stalking Jack the Ripper, which is sitting patiently on my Kindle waiting to be read. I’m hoping to find some time before the sequel, Hunting Dracula, comes out in September.

It was all the reviews for Hunting Dracula that compelled me to jump in! While I’m interested in the Jack the Ripper stuff, I’m like 10 times as interested in the Dracula stuff. I can’t wait to get there!

Aww yes! Don’t start with fool’s assassin – it will spoil everything that happened in the previous trilogies. Assassin’s apprentice is the right place to start 🙂
First Fitz trilogy – liveship traders – tawny man trilogy – rainwild chronicles – fitz & fool trilogy is the best way to go 🙂 although i read the liveship traders first^^
Have fun with your new books!

I’m definitely glad my friend caught me and told me not to read that one first haha. I would have ruined the whole experience for myself. Thanks for the list too!

Hi Bentley great haul! I seem to be a book collector too 😉 I’ve read the Assasin’s Apprentice years ago and I really liked it! It would be best indeed to begin with this one. I’m going to follow you on IG now as I love taking pics and seeing pics about books.

Awesome! I’ll catch you over there! Also so glad to hear you liked Assassin’s Apprentice too. 🙂

Nice haul! I’ve been meaning to try out Rick Riordan and Robin Hobb, perhaps I’ll pick up both on my next library run. Also thanks for the notice about Fool’s Assassin, that’s actually the one I was initially looking at. It’s so hard to approach authors with a large body of work or long running series with prequels and spin-offs – I never know where to start. u_u

I definitely recommend Rick Riordan. I’m on the second Percy Jackson book right now and loving it! And I hear you about not knowing where to start with big series. I just visited my mother the other day and she was telling me about this “terrible book” that she couldn’t get into. When I asked to see it, I realized she had bought one of the later books in the Game of Thrones series without having read the others or seen the show. No wonder she was totally lost! haha

Oh no! I can’t even imagine trying to hop into a Game of Thrones book in the middle of the series, so many characters and story arcs to juggle. That’s kind of adorable though. XD I had a friend in high school that read the Harry Potter books in random order and was always confused about how she managed that.

These all look amazing! I’ve never read Robin Hobb either but the work looks like something my boyfriend and I would really enjoy. I look forward to hearing how you felt about them. 🙂 I also checked out your insta and your little reading nook is SUPER CUTE! I love the purple chairs and your fur-babies are adorable!

Thank you Ashley!! It’s been a process, carving out a section of my house dedicated to reading and showing off my books – but I’m finally done and loving the way it looks now too. 🙂

Thanks Niki! I can’t wait to start it! I’m moving it way up on my TBR list just because I’m really intrigued by Robin Hobb as an author.

Oh that’s a great haul – so many books I haven’t read ahah. I haven’t tried a Robin Hobb book yet but I have friends that recommended me these books so many times! also, I really like the sound of Deep Blue! 🙂

Hobb is an outstanding author, definitely got to start at the very beginning with Assassin’s Apprentice as then you get to experience the complete journey of Fitz, such a wonderful world and characters, apart from Regal, he is the Hobb equivalent of Joffrey by GRRM!😂

Oh boy! I love a good character to hate though! Looking forward to this even more now. Thanks Drew!

I was pretty good this month and didn’t buy ANY books so far!!! Except ACOWAR 😀 But I’ve got a few pre-orders that should be here by the end of the month and after seeing your book haul I feel the urge to go on Amazon and order some of these books myself! 😂

I think Rick Riordan speaks to the part of me that seriously loves ancient mythology. ❤ What I've read of his has been great thus far.
