What I Reviewed:
YA Sci-Fi/Action. The closing book in Paula Stokes sci-fi duology. I enjoyed watching Winter’s story draw to a close. However, I kind of missed some old characters from the first book that seemed sidelined in this, and Winter’s own agency was sort of tampered with by a plot twist that I took some issues with. Behind Closed Doors
by B.A. Paris
Psychological Thriller. I buddy-read this with a dear friend on Goodreads and loved it. It’s definitely thrilling, and I was hooked from the start. At times it felt like the story was on fast-forward, with more telling than showing, but otherwise I thought it was a fantastic ride. Check out the full review if you’ve not seen it yet!
Gathering Darkness
by Morgan Rhodes
YA Fantasy. I finally finished this book! It looked like my Fantasy League that I was reading this with on Goodreads was getting back together and trying to finish it out – but every other person in the group ended up DNFing it. I basically dragged myself through it just because I was already 50% through it. One of the worst reads of the year for me personally. I had a lot of issues with it, which I cover in my full review.
What I’m Currently Reading:
Blackwing
by Ed McDonald
Dark Fantasy. I started reading this Netgalley approved book mostly because the premise just seems so interesting to me that I couldn’t wait any longer. Dark Fantasy is my favorite, and I can already tell that this is going to fit the bill. I’m about 50% in thus far and am very excited to see how things play out. The world is really awesome in this book so far!
Percy Jackson & The Olympians IV: The Battle of the Labyrinth
by Rick Riordan
Middle Grade Fantasy. Finally getting back into the Percy Jackson series! I’ve been slowly reading this over the last couple of months and loving every moment of it! I’m currently 60% into this book and it might just end up being my favorite so far. 🙂 Photo taken from my Instagram @bookbastion
Books I Hauled:
No one told me that Book Depository took so long to ship! XD
I promise this is coming in the next week. All of the books I ordered for my birthday are slowly trickling in through the post. They’re almost all here now though, I’m just waiting for a few stragglers!
Netgalley/Edelweiss Update
Nothing to report this week! I was good and am focusing more fully on reading the things I’m already approved for rather than requesting more.
Writing Update
Another slower week, unfortunately. I have family in town so I’ve had a few days where I wasn’t stationed anywhere I could actually focus on writing. I did get some more planning done for my WIP which is a fantasy novel. There’s a lot of worldbuilding I’m still nailing down, including religious belief systems and magical systems – but it’s slowly getting there!
How is your month going? Reading anything great? Writing anything? Let me know in the comments section below!
xoxo
Lol sorry we all should have warned you about Book Depository. They take forever!

Ha! So I’ve learned! I mostly am salty about it because I ordered these books as a birthday gift for myself, so the wait has felt even longer! XD

Aww. Well, you can celebrate your bday again when they arrive. (I totally would.)

Are you going to push through onto Frozen Tides (Falling Kingdoms #4)?? I still can’t believe you read the 2nd & 3rd!
I’m working through the Percy Jackson books slowly too! Although, I’ve barely just started the first one. I wish I had read them when I was younger.
That Blackwing cover though…so pretty!

I’m not going to push onto Frozen Tides. In all honesty, I don’t think I’m going to read another book by Morgan Rhodes again if I can help it. I love the Blackwing cover too! 🙂

Looking forward to reading my Blackwing ARC. About to start Mask of Shadows.
And I’m *hoping* to get more work done on my WIP, rather than sidetracking with new ideas.

I’d be interested to see what you make of Mask of Shadows. I read it earlier this year.

Nice haircut, dude!
It’s a bummer “Gathering Darkness” turned out bad because the cover is enticing! Lol!

Every book in the Falling Kingdoms series has awesome covers! It’s too bad that the story isn’t that great. Proof positive that you can’t judge a book by its cover!

Ah shucks! I guess the old saying is true, after all. Though, I’m prejudiced and will always judge covers, at least a bit.
